Ulrike Hamm was born in 1962, in Northern Germany. She received her apprenticeship as a Goldsmith from 1978 to 1981 in the Lehrwerkstatt der Gold- und Silberschmiede-Innung (Teaching Workshop of the Guild of Gold and Silversmiths) in Hamburg, Germany. Following on from this she worked as a junior in various Goldsmith's workshops in the North of Germany. In 1990 Ulrike Hamm came to Berlin. She attended seminars as a Guest Student in Art History, Sculpturing and Drawing as well as the Summer Academy for Sculpture at the Universität der Künste (University of the Arts). Between 1991 and 1996 she studied Jewelry Craft at the Fachhochschule für Gestaltung (College of Design) in Pforzheim. In 2001 she attended the Ambiente fair in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, with her genuine parchment works for the first time, followed by publications in the trade press and in exhibition catalogues. In 2014 she opened the „Werkstatt für Echtes Pergament“ (workshop for genuine parchment) in the Aufbau Haus in Berlin-Kreuzberg. After a renovation phase from July 2024, the workshop will reopen shortly in Falkensee / Finkenkrug near Berlin. Ulrike Hamm has two grown-up daughters and lives in Berlin.
